Still learning!!! I meant to add this picture to the last blog mostly because I told Ashley I was going to do it. So I guess this is the materialistic section of the blog. We got our new couch for the bonus room, and we all love it. Very comfy, fits in well with the room, lots of space for the family. Its a great couch!
Contrary to the weather outside, it supposedly is spring in the Lewiston/Clarkston valley. Who knew we would wake up to snow on the 21st. Crazy!!! My kids are wondering what the big deal about global warming is all about!!
Where is Davy Crockett when you need him? This cuddly looking bear was just across the street in the field for several days. He wandered in from the south, and kind of liked the neighborhood. We tried to spy him with the binoculars, but he stayed in the brush. I guess the advantage of living in a town with hunters in every other house is that there were several offers to take care of him. I hope he made it back to his real home.
Soccer season wrapped up for Kristin and Trevor yesterday. They both had a great season, and as parents, we were glad when they played teams with some defense. There were a few games that could only be described as massacres. Amber's team has had a great season so far and their last 2 games are this coming Saturday. They have one make up game later in May, but it is on a Sunday, so she will be missing that one.
Prom is the buzz word this week. Allison had two dress choices, both of which were beautiful, and her dilemma was figuring out which one to wear. Chelsie's was a little different. Not finding just the dress she was looking for, she and I trooped to the fabric store to find a great pattern (which of course, needed to be modified for modesty purposes) and a very beautiful bolt of fabric. I won't even try to describe it because it will sound ugly! Needless to say, last week was spent with many crossed fingers and a few prayers and a few hours to get part of the dress done. This week will be spent much the same way. So far, so good. Look for pictures next week. (you can cross your fingers and say a few prayers too. :-)

Since they finally got the shower door put on, we could finally give the steam shower a try. John "requested" that everyone don their swim suit and join him for a session in the steam. He refers to it as "Family Bonding Time", and would like to remind everyone that the family that steams together, sticks together. Amber is not in the picture because she was on a soccer trip and got back after I took the picture. Ahhh, relaxing.
Trevor and Kristin decided to make sure the jacuzzi is usable. They have used it the most of all I think. I love the mirrors in the master bath. I especially love that they were only 40.00 at Ross. At left is a tile from Turkey that caused such a delay. What a pain, but what a pretty tile. I also love the back splash on the counter and around the tub.
Also, last week, we hosted Ginger. The 4th grade hamster. Although she was threatened many times to not make it back to the classroom with her head, she was all in all a very nice house guest and the younger kids lovvvvved having her here.

Amber and her friend Amanda Welle entered National History Day and did a project on the Tennessee Valley Authority. They won 1st place in their age division. They would've gone to state except Amanda had Karate that she couldn't miss and Amber had a soccer game. In all, they had fun going to Amanda's house to work on it. They were both disappointed to not go to state, but they may do it next year together.
Kristin, Kian, Michael and Kaelee entered the Math Competition this spring. The competition was tough, and they came away with a 4th in Data and Problem solving.
April Fools!!! Lunch anyone? The three amigos made a deceptively delicious lunch for the big day. If you can't see the pix very well, it is a hot dog octopus sitting a top a bed of green macaroni and cheese. To wash that all down, there is a cold, refreshing glass of blue milk. YUM!!!
Trevor and John are breaking in the new driveway by shooting a few hoops. At the last contest, John handily beat Trev at 21-14, but Trev stomped him at PIG!!! Swoosh!
Elder Clayton graciously agreed to let us snap a picture with the kids. What a great opportunity for our family. I only wish the whole family could've been here for it. He was a very personable man who showed his commitment to his family just by the way he talked and acted.
Obviously John is thrilled with the prospect of another birthday. Who wouldn't be with a tasty blueberry lemon cheesecake to celebrate with. Happy 47th!!
And finally, no picture, but so glad to spread the good news that Ashley has filled all requirements for graduation from BYU with a degree in Home and Family Living from the college of Family, Home and Social Sciences. WOO HOO!!! Congratulations Ashley. We are very proud of you!!!!
Here is the historic first blog from the Rietz clan. More as a response to a challenge from Brandon that "even a mom can do it", but also thinking it may be fun to keep a running record of our family, we'll give it a go and see where it takes us. (How is the title, Brandon?)
We can report with smiles on our faces that the remodel inside is about as finished as its going to be. We still have to wait for the weather to be more consistently warm for the outside to be painted. Inside though, we are moved into our new bedroom and the younger kids will be all moved in by the end of this week. More painting seems to be in my future, as I have to paint Trevor's new room this week. No purple walls for him. :-)
It has been several weeks since we have had the builders here on a consistent basis, so it's nice to have the house to myself during the day.
We had spring break this past week. We did sneak in a trip to Walla Walla for a night, but most of the week was spent moving beds, de-junking, and getting things rearranged in the addition. Its like moving without actually moving.
No photos this week. We want to take this one step at a time. That way no one will get hurt! :-)
